Indochina Informations

Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos together make up Indochina, an area with stunning landscapes dotted with a patchwork of paddy fields and thriving cities. Rich in history, there are markets to explore, elegantly faded French colonial boulevards to admire and warm soft sand beaches to relax on. Whether you want to explore Indochina’s beautiful temples, get right off the beaten track with a trek through jungle clad hills or take a slow boat down the mighty Mekong River you’re sure not to be disappointed.

GETTING THERE & GETTING AROUND
How do I get there?
You can reach Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Vientiane, Luang Prabang, Phnom Penh and Siem Reap (for Angkor Wat) with just one quick change of planes, and journey times start from only 14 1/2 hours. We can arrange easy connections from around the UK and have the widest range of flights across Indochina for you to choose from with some of the most competitive prices around.

How much will it cost?

Our flight prices start at around £700/€1100 including all pre-paid taxes during low season, normally mid-April to mid-June and there are often great special offers making the trip even cheaper. Our travel consultants have hundreds of airfares at their fingertips so always call for the most up-to-date prices and special offers and save yourself time and money.

Can I combine Indochina with other destinations?

Easily! As the tailormade travel experts we can arrange almost any combination you like. Why not include a stopover in vibrant Kuala Lumpur or Singapore? Bangkok makes a great combination with the temples of Angkor Wat, a tour of the evocative sights of Laos or the dramatic landscapes of northern Vietnam. You might choose to combine two or more Indochina destinations for a real flavour of this corner of Asia. Many airlines offer free stopovers or special fares for multi-centre trips so combining more than one destination may be easier and less costly than you think. Call or visit your local Trailfinders travel centre and let us show you what we can do.

Private tours

What better way to explore Indochina than with your own private transport and guide? Travelling in this flexible style offers you the chance to create your own itinerary, going where you want, when you want. Plan what sights to see on a day-to-day basis, or ask your guide for advice. Having someone on hand to explain the history of the intricate temples of Angkor Wat, the natural and cultural heritage of Vietnam’s Halong Bay, or the riverside temples of Luang Prabang will really enhance your enjoyment of the region and what it has to offer.

Adventure tours

Travelling with like-minded people and using local buses, boats and bikes as well as private transport, adventure tours offer the chance to explore independently, with the benefit of an expert guide to help make the most of your time. All sorts of activities are on offer, and trip styles range from the clean and simple to the quite luxurious, so these are not just for those used to roughing it! In all cases they offer excellent value for money. Many tours combine more than one country making the sights and sounds of Indochina really accessible. Speak to your travel consultant to find out more

Where to stay

We feature a great range of accommodation from small French colonial style hotels to luxury beachfront resorts. Trailfinders can also arrange transfers for you, to make your journey from the airport to your hotel as stress-free as possible. If you can’t find quite what you want in the following pages then please call as we have many other options available. Making the right choice is essential to getting the most from your holiday and our travel consultants are on hand to help, often with first hand experience.

When to go
There is always somewhere in Indochina that is warm and sunny, so you can comfortably visit year-round. The wettest period in the south of the region is May to October, but this a great time of year to be in northern Vietnam and Laos. The Tet New Year festival is Vietnam’s most important celebration, and takes place in late January or early February and Cambodia has its Water Festival in late October and early November in Phnom Penh, when hundreds of brightly coloured traditional boats race along the Mekong River. These are particularly popular times so make sure you book ahead!
